Sept 2004 -- The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has agreed to provide funding to Proton Energy Systems, Inc. to design, build and conduct a 24-month demonstration of a 5kW Regenerative Fuel Cell (RFC) for a telecommunications site in southwestern Connecticut. Sept 2004 -- Appointment of Mark Murray as president. Murray, a seasoned 25-year executive, brings a wealth of experience in innovative sales, marketing, and new business strategies to Proton. Sept 2004 -- Northern -- Marks 30th anniversary of its founding. Aug 2004 -- Proton -- Will collaborate with Air Products
in 2 demonstration hydrogen fueling stations by the California South
Coast Air Quality Management March 2004 -- Northern - Received a two-year grant total of $600,000 from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) for development of the company's MicroGrid(R) power network March 2004 -- Proton - Launch of the company's HOGEN H Series onsite hydrogen generator at Mirant Corporation's power plant in Zeeland, MI. (more) Jan 2004 -- Proton - Received a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase II contract from NASA for the development of lightweight unitized regenerative fuel cell technology for unmanned aerial vehicles. Jan 2004 -- Proton - Received a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase II contract from NASA for the development of lightweight unitized regenerative fuel cell technology for unmanned aerial vehicles and a SBIR Phase I contract from the U.S. Army Missile Defense Agency (MDA) for the development of lightweight regenerative fuel cell technology for high altitude airships. May 2003 -- Proton - Begins second phase of its contract with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for advanced fuel cell (FC) technology development. According to PES, initial contract funding for the second phase of the cost-plus, fixed-fee contract is $385,000, "with the total potential contract value worth up to $4.5 million." PES said the goal of the next project phase is "the achievement of key milestones that build toward the demonstration of a one-kilowatt-scale prototype system," with design goals for the high-pressure hydrogen/oxygen regenerative FC including "reversibility, space operation, lightweight packaging and fewer system components over state-of-the-art [FC] designs." May 2003 -- Northern - Selected by SC Johnson to engineer, build and install a sophisticated cogeneration power system at the company's Waxdale plant in Racine, Wisconsin. Northern's system will burn methane gas from a nearby landfill to generate a capacity of 3.2MW of electricity (one-half of the facility's current power demand) and recover the waste heat from the exhaust to make 17,000 pounds of plant steam per hour (or 17 million BTUs). Aug 2003 -- Northern - Will engineer, build, and operate a custom-designed, utility-connected energy generation, storage and distribution network within the area known as Mad River Park in Waitsfield, Vermont. This first-of-its-kind MicroGrid(R) power network will operate in parallel with the bulk utility generation and distribution system and will provide dramatically increased power quality and reliability to residences and businesses Aug -- 2002 - Northern - Break ground on a new 28,000 square foot facility on a 7.2-acre land plot adjacent to the company's existing building at Mad River Park in Waitsfield. Sept 2002 -- Northern - Commissioned by Yale University, New Haven, Conn., and Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt., to provide engineering studies to test the integration of renewable power into new buildings currently under design and for a college ski area on their respective campuses. Oct 2001 -- Proton - Breaks ground for its new, 100,000
square foot facility in Wallingford, Coon. Will include Proton's corporate
headquarters and space for manufacturing, research and product development. Jan 2001 -- Proton - Sustainable Energy will be developing 7.5kW power-conditioning systems for Proton's UNIGEN regenerative fuel cell system. Proton will provide the system for use in a renewable energy demonstration producing hydrogen from water using electricity generated from solar or wind power. Dec 2000 -- Proton - Plans for production of additional HOGEN 40 onsite hydrogen generators to produce hydrogen gas onsite. The HOGEN 40 hydrogen generation systems being manufactured are expected to be placed both with industrial gas suppliers for use by their customers and with hydrogen end users directly. HOGEN 40 hydrogen generators are already in service with industrial customers in the U.S. and other countries. Nov 2000 -- Proton - Joins California Fuel Cell Partnership. Sept 2000 -- Proton - Initial public offering of seven million shares of common stock at $17 per share. Feb 2000 -- Proton - Appointment of Diamond Lite SA (www.diamondlite.com)
as European Distributor for the HOGEN(R) hydrogen generator product
line. Nov 1998 -- Proton - Agreement with Idaho Power, a wholly
owned subsidiary of IDACORP (NYSE:IDA), for the sale of an advanced
Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) hydrogen generator system.
